The Journey to Germany

In June 2026, the Hong Kong National Masters Team will make its historic debut at the MIHWA World Championship in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. This marks a significant milestone for the Hong Kong hockey community, as our veteran athletes represent the city on the world stage for the first time in the Masters category.

The tournament brings together the world’s elite inline hockey nations to compete at the iconic Olympic Ice Stadium (Olympia-Eissport-Zentrum), the venue of the 1936 Winter Olympics.

The MIHWA Format

The World Championship features a grueling schedule featuring top-tier nations including the USA, Canada, Czechia, France, Spain, Italy, Sweden and Great Britain.

  • Round Robin: Group stage matches to determine seeding.

  • Knockout Phase: Sudden-death playoffs leading to the Trophy, Plate, and Bowl finals.

  • Rules: Games follow international MIHWA standards; four-on-four play with two 20-minute halves.

Hong Kong, China has been placed in the 'Developing Pool' for the World Championships. Competing in this pool is a strategic entry point for the HK Masters. It ensures the team faces competitive, high-stakes matches against nations at a similar stage of "Masters" development. To advance, Hong Kong will need to leverage their experience in the local HK league and find a way to counter the physical advantage of the North American and European sides.

This pool represents a "Global Group," meaning the team will have to adapt to vastly different styles of play, from the finesse and speed of Colombia to the structured defense of Ireland, all within the span of a few days in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
